Copyediting is the stage that brings your manuscript from well-written to professionally polished. It’s where every comma, hyphen, and verb tense is checked for accuracy and consistency. This edit corrects errors and standardizes usage, ensuring your manuscript reads smoothly while preserving your voice and style.

All edits are made with Track Changes so you can accept or decline each correction. You’ll also receive a custom Style Sheet documenting key decisions and stylistic choices used throughout your edit.

Think of it as: clean, consistent, correct prose—without changing your voice.

• Word usage issues (e.g., affect vs. effect, farther vs. further)
• Consistency in capitalization, hyphenation, and formatting

• Style alignment (based on your genre norms and any preferences)

Margin comments for:

• Clarifying ambiguous phrasing or factual points
• Asking quick yes/no questions about intended meaning
• Explaining recurring grammatical or stylistic corrections

A personalized Style Sheet, detailing:

• Spelling and hyphenation preferences
• Capitalization, numerals, and formatting rules applied
• Character names, places, and timeline consistency notes
• Any unique conventions followed during the edit

All copyedits are completed in a single round of editing. I follow The Chicago Guide to Copyediting Fiction as my stylistic foundation, balancing standard grammar conventions with the creative flexibility fiction requires.

This service does not include: developmental editing (story, pacing, or structure), stylistic rephrasing (line editing), a final typo-only check (proofreading), or comprehensive fact-checking. Light fact-checking may be performed if an error is clearly unintentional or impacts clarity (for example, correcting anachronistic dates or obvious name inconsistencies). If a manuscript contains extensive stylistic issues, I may recommend a Line Edit instead.

🧾 Minimum Project Fee: $200 USD

To reserve your spot, a non-refundable minimum payment of $200 USD is due at booking. This deposit secures your project on my schedule and applies toward your total service fee.

If your total project cost exceeds the minimum:

• 50% of the total (minus deposit) is due on or before your scheduled start date
• The remaining balance is due before delivery of your completed copyedit

💡 Example Pricing:
For a 50,000-word manuscript ($350 total):

• $200 due at booking (non-refundable deposit)
• None due by your project start date as the deposit covers the first 50%
• $150 due before delivery of your completed manuscript

📄 Submission Requirements

• Manuscripts must be complete and sufficiently self-edited
• Files must be submitted in .docx format
• Please provide your manuscript no later than 8:00 AM ET on your scheduled start date

⏱️ Turnaround Time

Turnaround time is variable, depending on manuscript length and my current schedule. Copyedits may be completed in 1–2 weeks for shorter and mid-length works, or longer for bigger novels. This is variable as my own writing/publishing schedule may affect my availability.

🔍 Genre & Content Guidelines

This service is open to all fiction genres, including romance, fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, and more. I’ll tailor style notes and corrections to suit your genre and readership expectations.

I do not accept manuscripts that include rape as an active plot element. If such events occurred off-page before the story and are only referenced, we can discuss comfort levels beforehand.

For darker or taboo stories, please include trigger warnings so I can confirm the project is a good fit before accepting.

🗽 Language Note:
At this time, I primarily work with manuscripts written in US English for spelling and punctuation. If your manuscript uses UK, Canadian, or other regional English conventions, please reach out—exceptions can sometimes be made depending on the project.
